Chiya Hosts RMAFC Commissioner, Restates Unflinching Commitment to Fiscal Development.

…to galvanize revenue generation

…and provide manpower

Executive Chairman of Kwali Area Council, Hon. Danladi Chiya, has hosted FCT’s Commissioner at the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), His Excellency, Ambassador Ayuba Jacob Ngbako, on an economic development visit.

The Chairman who was represented by the Vice Chairman, Alhaji Mohammed Yakubu, remarked that the Area Council was open to digesting initiatives and policies from the Commission, aimed at fostering fiscal growth and stability.

“Your Excellency Sir, the Honourable Chairman is unavoidably absent owing to higher official engagements and has directed me to receive you and your team.

We have listened to the mission of your visit to the Council and must say it is very clear; to assist us gain higher financial muscle and to impart us with requisite economic wisdom, amongst others.”

“Let me remind us that this is in line with the Chiya-led administration’s vision.”

The Chairman who promised to ensure a legislation on fiscal growth and provide manpower for the Commission at Council level, declared that no word from the Commission will be allowed to fall to the ground.

“Honourable Commissioner Sir, we will work with the Council Legislature on this matter to enact a law to galvanize revenue generation. We will provide the Commission with the requested personnel who will serve as Desk Officer for this cause.”

“We are going to digest the ideas you have shared with us for the betterment of our revenue and for the overall benefit of the Council” the Chairman added.

Earlier, the Commissioner, in his opening address, outlined initiatives which, he said, were substantial to economic growth.

“I want to thank you for this warm reception today. May I start by saying that if we will, as a local government, experience economic liberty, we must use some of these keys which include; developing a roadmap for fiscal growth, have fiscal policy, embrace fiscal efficiency and transparency.”

Furthermore, the former Nigeria Ambassador to Gambia addressed the Council to diversify and choose firsthand revenue generation method.

“Executive Chairman Sir, you must prioritize diversification in revenue generation so as to experience economic development; from health to finance, arts and culture to social development- revenues in these areas must be maximally tapped, because even at the Federal level, they are indices for revenue allocation.”

“Another thing to add is that the Council should take absolute responsibility for revenue generation by seeking direct approach method where all collections are centralized just as we have at the Federal level.”

One her part, the Director of Administration and General Services, Mary Ishaya (Ms) who gave the closing remarks and vote of thanks, acknowledged the important role of the Commissioner in nation building.

She expressed confidence in the Honourable Chairman’s commitment to economic drive and stressed unreserved readiness and support of Staff to achieving the administration’s economic goals and objectives.
